Welcome to Hadron!

For those who are not already familiar, this is a website for alumni of Quark, BYU's Sci-fi and Fantasy club. The website was set up to give a place for the growing population of Quark members (now Quark Alumni) to gather after they have moved on from BYU and are no longer able to attend Quark meetings and activities regularly. Whether you've graduated, transferred schools, or for whatever reason aren't able to take direct part in Quark at BYU anymore, Hadron is for you.

Time for a little discussion about the utility of this forum.

First, we'll lead off with some interesting statistics, many of which you can see here: https://hadron.neromir.net/index.php?action=stats

Date of first post: August 03, 2013
Total number of posts: 5078
Total members: 83
Total number of threads: 261

However, another thing that you'll notice if you go that page is that our posting has dropped off significantly since 2016 and is basically nothing since 2018. Not visible on that page, of our 83 members, only 9 of them have been online in the last year, and 13 more were online within the last 2 years.

So, on to the question: Is Hadron something that people are still interested in having around?

If I were to judge based on what I see in the statistics, I would say "probably not". The hosting costs are negligible-- the forum is hosted on a site I'm already paying for and would be paying for regardless, so it's not costing anything extra. The maintenance is usually small, although I do need to do some updates to bring things up to recent security standards. That said, if it's something people find valuable to have, even at sparse usage, I'm happy to keep it around. I'm just not super thrilled about putting effort into something that nobody has any interest in whatsoever.

I guess the reason I'm even posting this is not so much that I have a pressing need to take it down or anything, but more just to put it out there. It has been on my mind periodically over the last few years and I don't like having things sit around unaddressed.

Anyway, think it over, post your thoughts. Given the extremely slow sign-in rate of our membership I don't think I'll be doing anything about this any time very soon.

I'll be moving the site to a new host sometime in the next few days. There will likely be some downtime but I'll try to keep it to a minimum.
